Behind the company are Hallur and Jitka, the people who welcome guests, care for every detail, and share their love for North Iceland and its wildlife with everyone who comes aboard.
This is not just a business for us. It is part of our life, our family, and our home.
Captain Hallur
Hallur has spent much of his life on the water, where the ocean has been part of his story since childhood.
Growing up at sea, he developed a natural understanding of its rhythms and a deep connection to the world beneath the surface.
With a calm and intuitive approach, he guides each journey with confidence and care. His knowledge of Eyjafjörður allows him to read the sea instinctively, shaping each experience with quiet presence and respect.
Guide Jitka
After moving to Iceland, Jitka found her place at sea, where time on the water and encounters with whales shaped her deep connection to nature.
With a background in engineering and a growing path towards becoming a captain, she combines technical knowledge with a deep love for life on the ocean. She holds great respect for the sea and everything it holds, bringing a quiet sense of care and awareness to every journey.
Her curiosity and warmth help create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere on board, where each moment feels a little more personal.
A WORD FROM THE CAPTAIN
My life at sea
The sea has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
As a boy, I spent time on the water with my grandfather. He taught me how to work at sea, but even more importantly, he taught me to respect it. Those early days stayed with me, and from then on the ocean never left my heart.
Today, after more than 15 years of working at sea, I still feel that same wonder every time I leave the harbor. The whales, the birdlife, the changing light, and the quiet strength of Eyjafjörður continue to inspire me every single day.
The dream behind Whale Fairytale
For many years, I carried a dream of creating something of my own.
I did not want to build just another boat tour. I wanted to create something personal. Something honest. A journey where guests could truly feel what it is like to be out on the ocean, surrounded by nature, meeting whales in their true home.
Eyjafjörður is a place I know deeply, and it is a joy to share its beauty with others. For me, the best part of this work is seeing that moment when someone spots a whale and their face fills with wonder.
Family at the heart of it all
This dream would never have become real without my wife Tanja.
She is my best friend, my greatest support, and the person who believed in me all along. Together, we are raising four children, and family is at the heart of everything we do. Our boat even carries the name of one of our sons, making every journey even more personal to us.
Whale Fairytale is more than a company to us. It is our dream, our home, and our way of sharing the magic of the sea.
